The Radio Shack Dx-160 series radio is a frequent visitor to many Flea
Markets. With a few simple modifications , this machine can produce some very
excellent results for a low price. This is the first in a series of mods that I
have tried and tested so far. You will need a schematatic diagram unless you are
very good at this sort of thing. All right here we go:Remove and jumper
"L1".....then remove "C1".... then remove the swamping resistor "R62". Finally
replace the 470pf cap "C11" with a 730 pf Silver mica cap in the input to the
mixer. Perform a complete alignment of the osc/rf/ant sections. if you have never
done this , I will cover this in the next installment. Good luck and happy DX.
I have five radios in this series. Amazing valve! 73 KF6GNI John Novato, Ca.
