Folks,
I need some HELP!
For about 2 months I've been hearing a TIS, at home and on the
road, broadcasting on 1610 kHz. Following is my latest report to both DXM
and DXN:
1610 WPAS __ ____ - 2/13 0630 This TIS continues to be heard on
a somewhat regular basis, poor to fair level, with
male announcer: "You have tuned in to WPAS (about 90% certain of
letters), 16-10 AM, the emergency broadcast
station...weather reports...this message will repeat." Loop is
approximately 23-25 seconds in duration with a 5 second delay
between announcements. I've also logged this at home with a NW/SE loop.
(MH-NC)
Although I am not 100% certain of the call letters, it sounds like
WPAS and, at times, WPAN. There are 3 separate HAR operations in New Jersey
on 1610 --- WPAS758 in the following counties --- Burlington, Middlesex,
and Union, all operated by the State of New Jersey. This operation,
however, sounds like a community operation and not government...still, who
knows? No other "WPAS" call letters noted on 1610, per FCC site.
New York State has 4 transmitters in Erie County with an ID of:
WPAN997. So, possibly them.
Would appreciate anyone in/around the above New Jersey counties,
and New York checking on this. Also, if anyone has a TIS/HAR operation, on
1610 kHz, around their area, would you please check and let me know if
you're hearing anything which sounds like my mystery.
Thanks! Very 73 and Best of DX de Mike
