Pete;
Ah, the memories you brought back to me, the 4 months we spent in Rancho
Mirage in 2000. I still have the place as it is rented out. But at 6
miles from the 1140 site, nulling their 2.5 KW signal was easy to hear
Las Vegas at night. The stations do not get out well. Their directional
patterns are tight, plus there is no ground system sitting in the dry
sand. Most of the stations towers are out along I-10. Most of your XEs
listed, 790, 820, 850, 940, 990, 1050, 1080, 1190, are all Mexicali at
less that 100 miles away. Being surrounded by mountains to the West, LA
was not much of a factor when I was there. San Diego was weak too. When
I was there the TIS on 1610 had an open carrier at times, but that was
it. Yes, that was KAVL on 610. KBLU-560 goes to the South at night.
Strong days, non-existant at night. FL on 1660, 1680 were both heard at
night there. Utah-1660 was rather poor. Stronger here. DXing in the
Coachella Valley is a different world to say the least.
